How it works

  1. 1Drop WebP files (or convert from JPG/PNG) onto the dropzone.
  2. 2Pick a quality preset or use the slider. Optionally resize by max width.
  3. 3Click Compress. Browser's WebP encoder runs locally.
  4. 4Download individually or batch as ZIP.

Why use this WebP compressor

  • WebP is the modern replacement for JPG and PNG on the web — typically 25–35% smaller.
  • Supports both lossy and (with the right encoder) transparency, like PNG.
  • Re-encoded locally with the browser's libwebp — no upload required.
  • Works as a converter too: drop JPG/PNG and pick WebP as output.

Features

Frequently asked questions

Why is WebP smaller than JPG and PNG?
WebP uses VP8/VP9-derived block prediction and a more efficient entropy coder than JPG, plus PNG-grade lossless support — typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same visual quality.
Do all browsers support WebP?
Yes. Every modern browser (Chrome, Edge, Safari 14+, Firefox, all mobile) decodes WebP. Encoding (what this tool does) is also universal.
Will WebP work for my eCommerce store?
Most modern Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce and custom themes accept WebP. For Shopify-specific guidance, see our Shopify image compressor page.
Are my images uploaded to your server?
No. All images are processed locally in your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your files never leave your device, and we have no infrastructure that could receive them.
Can I compress multiple images?
Yes. You can drop a batch of images (or an entire folder) and download the compressed results as a single ZIP file with the original folder structure preserved.
Which formats are supported?
JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF are supported when available in your browser. The Auto mode picks the smallest modern format your browser can encode.
Can I compress images to a specific size?
Yes. Use the Compress to KB tool to target 100KB, 200KB, 500KB, 1MB or any custom size.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no signup, no login, and no payment. The tool works as soon as the page loads.
